Inner healing is a process through which painful or traumatic memories
are taken " captive, " and made " obedient to Christ." (2 Corinthians
10:5). Under the leading of the Holy Spirit, who guides the
believer "into all truth", we are able to uncover wounds and lies
that have held that person captive in shame, guilt, or fear. Going
back to the painful memory in the presence of the Risen Lord Jesus
and letting Him speak the Gospel into the heart brings truth, healing,
peace, and forgiveness.
People, even Christians, are affected by what is said and done
to them. Over the years, if hurtful words and actions are not brought
into the light of Christ, they fester like emotional cancers. Eventually
they surface in problems such as anxiety, depression, addictions,
compulsivity, inability for intimacy, chronic anger, eating disorders,
sexual confusion, etc.

Inner healing goes to the root cause of the symptoms. The Holy Spirit
is able to pinpoint the source of the emotional affliction and speak
the truth to the part of the soul that is wounded or bound. As the
healing occurs over time, people begin to realize that they are
being freed from what has held them captive.
By using the imagination to see the memory with Jesus present,
one can experience painful events of the past as having to submit
to His authority as Lord over all their life. While inner healing
does not change the hurtful things that happened, it does allow
God to heal their damaging emotional and spiritual effects.
